கதிர்காமம் கோயில் (Kataragama temple, சிங்களம்: කතරගම, Muslims: Al-Khiḍr)

கதிர் என்றால் ஒளி/ஐோதி வடிவானவன், காமம் என்றால் அன்பு நிறைந்தவன் என்றும் இதனால் அன்பு நிறைந்த அருட்பெருஞ்சோதி வடிவாக எம்பெருமான் முருகன் எழுந்தருளி பக்தர்களுக்கு சாதி/மத/இன பேதமின்றி அருள்பாலிக்கிறான்.

மற்ற இந்து ஆலயங்களில் இருப்பது போல், கதிர்காமத்தில் முருகனுக்குக் கருவறைச் சிலை கிடையாது! வேல் வழிபாடும் கிடையாது! பின்னால் ஒரு எந்திரமும், முன்னால் ஒரு துணித் திரையும் தான் கருவறை!

கருவறையில் உள்ள அறுகோண எந்திரம், கதிர்காமத் தேவரின் அரு-உருவமாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது! அதைப் பெளத்தர்கள், இஸ்லாமியர்கள், தமிழர்கள் மூவருமே வழிபடுகிறார்கள்!

கதிர்காமம் கோயில்இலங்கையில் மிகவும் புகழ் பெற்ற புனித பாதயாத்திரை தலம். அங்கு அருள்பாலிக்கும் கந்தனை வழிபடச் செல்வதை கதிர்காம யாத்திரை என்பர். கிட்டதட்ட 2500 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் தமிழ் மன்னனான எல்லாளனுடனான போரில், சிங்கள மன்னனான துட்டைகைமுனு இக்கோயிலில் நேர்த்திக்கடன் வைத்ததாகவும், போரில் வென்ற பின்னர், இக்கோயிலில் நேர்த்திக்கடனை நிறைவேற்றியதாகவும் மகாவம்சம் நூலில் குறிப்புகள் உள்ளன. அதேவேளை இக்கோயிலின் வரலாறு அதற்கும் முன்னதான நீண்ட வரலாற்றைக் கொண்டது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

பிரசித்தி பெற்ற கதிர்காம வருடாந்த பெருவிழாவின் போது, தாமிரத்திலோ தங்கத்தட்டிலோ எழுதப்பட்ட பரமரகசியமான மந்திர சக்திவாய்ந்த யந்திரத்தைக்கொண்ட வெண்துகிலால் மூடிய பேழையை யானை சுமந்து ஊர்வலம் வரும். விவரிக்க முடியாத சூட்சுமசக்தி எங்கும் நிலவுகிறது. பக்திமேலீட்டினால் சிலர் விழிநீர்மல்கப்பாடி ஆடுகின்றனர். இன்னும் சிலர் உருண்டும் புரண்டும் உடலை வாட்டி வதைத்துத் தம்பாவங்களுக்கெல்லாம் கழுவாய் தேடுகின்றனர்.

According to Islamic tradition our forefather Adam (alai) first descended to earth in Serendib (modern Sri Lanka) upon Adam's Peak. A simple yet powerful Mosque & Shrine there are intimately associated in quranic and pre-quranic lore with Hazarat Khizr (alai), 'The Green Man', identified with the mysterious servant of Allah and holy teacher of prophet Musa (Moses) spoken of in the Holy Quran (Sura Khalf 'The Cave'), is believed to be the discoverer of the Ma'ul Hayat or Water of Life.
